18 million SEK available for organisations to save energy
Non-profit organisations can now apply for funds to reduce their energy consumption. On October 10, the Good Environmental Choice Energy Fund opens with over 18 million SEK available to non-profit organisations that want to implement measures for energy efficiency.
Non-profit organisations play a major role in society. In Sweden, almost one in three people over the age of 16 is active in one of the country’s more than 160,000 organisations (1)(2). The economic situation, with rising electricity prices, has been a challenge for many organisations, especially for sports clubs and those focusing on children and young people (3). With the new focus of the Good Environmental Choice Energy Fund, organisations can apply for funds to reduce their energy use, thereby reducing both expenses and environmental impact.
– Our goal is for more organisations to be able to implement measures for energy efficiency. It can be anything from switching to energy-efficient lighting in a sports hall, to improving the insulation in a community centre, says Linna Andersson, administrator of the Good Environmental Choice Energy Fund.
– We are extremely pleased that Good Environmental Choice chooses to support organisations that create such important spaces for sports, community, and well-being. For many sports clubs, financing energy efficiency projects is a major challenge, and funding providers are often crucial, says Jonas Knutsson, coordinator of Facilities and Sports Environments, the Swedish Sports Confederation.
Using energy more efficiently reduces the need to expand the energy system and contributes to reducing environmental and climate impact. It also results in lower energy costs. According to the Swedish Energy Agency, there is a significant need in Sweden to use energy more efficiently in order to meet both national targets and EU requirements (4).
– The starting point for a sustainable energy system is to manage the electricity we have. Therefore, energy efficiency is necessary. It also leads to reduced electricity bills and a lower vulnerability to rising energy prices, explains Antoine Baudoin, energy expert at the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation.
The Good Environmental Choice Energy Fund has existed since 2010 and is financed through the sales of electricity labelled as Good Environmental Choice. Thanks to consumers who choose electricity labelled as Good Environmental Choice, funds are available to support organisations. On October 10, 2024, the fund will once again open for applications, with over 18 million SEK available for non-profit organisations. Read more about the fund here.
